Twitter has started testing a new GIF button inside its mobile app that it hopes will encourage more users to send the short video animations, making it easier for charities to liven-up their social media activities.
A sample of users have started seeing the button on the Twitter for Android app, which allows users to select trending GIFs or make a suitable choice based on mood categories.
If successful, the move would mirror Facebook’s dedicated GIF button inside Facebook Messenger, which draws on Riffsy and Giphy for content.
According to various tech blogs, Twitter often tests out new features among small user bases like this.
GIFs provide organisations with the opportunity to freshen up content and improve hit rates so could be successfully utilised by the charity sector.
